Schauer Group announces new executive leadership team

The fourth generation will lead the risk management firm, now in its second century

Schauer Group, Inc. has announced that Joseph D. Schauer has been named president and chief executive officer of the 102-year-old company. Schauer represents the fourth generation of the region’s innovative risk management, business insurance and human capital services firm.

“For more than 100 years, we have operated as one of the largest independent insurance and risk management firms in Ohio. I am honored to serve in this new role and will work to continue to build on our legacy of advancement, integrity, independence and commitment,” said Schauer.

In addition, Aimee B. Belden has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer, Taylor D. Schauer has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer, and Bryan D. Schauer has been named executive vice president and Cleveland market leader of the company.

“Aimee, Taylor and Bryan are each exceptionally talented in their respective areas. Their client-first approach and expertise will keep Schauer Group moving forward, ensuring we achieve continued growth through superior client service and by attracting and retaining the highest quality people to our team,” said Joe Schauer.

With this appointment, David T. Schauer has transitioned from his previous role as president to the new role of chairman and William T. Schauer will now serve as vice chairman. Both will continue to advise and provide service to current and prospective clients.

Joe Schauer, CPCU, ARM, joined the firm in 2004 and most recently served as vice president of business development. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in developing the company’s long-term strategic plans, managing business operations and client relations, and developing new talent. After graduating from John Carroll University, he earned the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designations. He currently serves as a cabinet leader for the construction of the Timken Family Cancer Center at Aultman Hospital, sits on the executive committee for both the Stark Economic Development Board and the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce board of directors, is an advisory board member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and is a member of the board of trustees of The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton. He is a graduate of the 22nd class of Leadership Stark County. Schauer was selected as one of Business Insurance Magazine’s top 40 Under 40 Insurance Brokers in 2014, was a recipient of the YMCA’s Red Triangle Award in 2013, received the YMCA Volunteer of the Year Award in 2011 and was named to ystark! Twenty under 40! in 2009.

Aimee Belden joined the company in 2013 and most recently served as vice president of operations. As COO, Belden will continue to lead the company in the areas of talent attraction and retention, culture, corporate strategy, corporate communications, operations, client retention and execution of the company’s vision. Belden has spent more than 20 years in a variety of operations, marketing, communications and public relations roles. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado. She began her career at GE Capital’s insurance division and moved on to roles at Fortune Brands, the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and Chesapeake Energy. Belden currently serves on the executive committee of both the board of directors of CommQuest Services and The Women’s Board of Aultman Hospital, and as a member of the board of trustees of the YMCA of Central Stark County. She is a graduate of the 25th class of Leadership Stark County and a 2012 recipient of the ystark! Twenty under 40! award.

Taylor Schauer, CPCU, ARM, MBA, joined the firm in 2009 and most recently served as vice president, specializing in contract surety and business insurance. In his new role as CFO, his responsibilities will grow to include the planning and implementation of all financial activities for the company, while still advising clients and managing client relationships. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University in 2008. He earned the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation (CPCU) in 2010, and his Associate in Risk Management (ARM) in 2011. He completed his MBA at the University of Akron in 2014. Schauer serves on the board of directors for the Ohio Contractors Association (Akron/Canton chapter), Builders Exchange and is past president of the Surety Association of Ohio. He is a member of the board of directors at the Early Childhood Resource Center, United Way of Greater Stark County and Stark Mental Health and Addiction Recovery. He is a 2014 recipient of the ystark! Twenty under 40! award.

Bryan Schauer, CPCU, joined the firm in 2008 and most recently served as vice president. In his role as Cleveland market leader, he will be focused on territory growth and market development in the Cleveland metro area, while continuing to advise clients. He actively manages a diverse client base, applying the expertise he gained as a business insurance underwriter for Cincinnati Insurance Companies. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University in 2005 and a designation as a Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 2010. He is past president of the Rotary Club of Cleveland, vice chairman of the Cleveland Rotary Foundation, and serves on the board of the Ohio Contractors Association (Cleveland chapter). Schauer was named one of the “25 Under 35 Movers and Shakers” by the Cleveland Professional 20/30 Club in 2013 and is an alumnus of Cleveland Bridge Builders Class of 2016.
